Mr. Burton opens to critical acclaim in cinemas across the UK
Based on a remarkable true story, Mr. Burton tells how the poor son of a miner became one of the greatest actors the world has ever known, with the help of an unlikely mentor.
The cast, which includes Toby Jones as the eponymous Philip Burton and Harry Lawtey as a young Richard Burton, have received plaudits for their performances.
The Daily Mail describes it as “a masterclass from Toby Jones”, while The Irish Times applauds Lawtey who “doesn’t simply inhabit the role in Marc Evans fine biopic: he metamorphosises.”
The Scotsman also lauds Lawtey’s performance: “his transformation is startling, it’s not just that he nails the voice, which he does, it’s that his ability to suddenly tap into that ineffable star quality that can’t be faked…”
The film received four star reviews from a range of publications including The Times, The Irish Times, Heat, Radio Times and The Hollywood News.
From BAFTA winning director Marc Evans (Manhunt), writers Tom Bullough and Josh Hyams and Producer Ed Talfan, Mr. Burton is a timeless tale of identity, class and defying expectations, telling a poignant story which still resonates today.
