BAFTA nomination for Mr. Burton
We are absolutely thrilled to announce that our feature film, Mr. Burton, has been nominated for Outstanding British Film at the 2026 EE BAFTA Film Awards.
To be recognised in such a prestigious category, alongside some of the most compelling voices in cinema today, is a real honour for the entire team at Severn Screen.
Mr. Burton tells the true story of the relationship between a young Richard Jenkins (who would become the legendary Richard Burton) and his schoolmaster, Philip Burton. It is a story about the transformative power of education, the mentorship that shapes us, and the rugged, poetic landscape of Wales that underpinned their journey.
Bringing this distinctly Welsh story to the screen was a labor of love. It required a delicate balance of historical truth and emotional resonance, a challenge met with grace by our incredible cast and creative team.
"We are incredibly proud of Mr. Burton and the entire team that worked so tirelessly to bring this story to life. To have a film that is so deeply rooted in Welsh history and culture recognised on the BAFTA stage is a wonderful moment for us, and for the Welsh screen industry as a whole."
— Ed Talfan, Producer, Severn Screen
We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to our funding and broadcast partners. Their belief in this project and their continued support of independent filmmaking in Wales allowed us to tell this story exactly as it needed to be told.
